Limerance (Score Study)

Limerance is a symphonic poem that describes what it feels like to have a crush.

I initially want to preface that my work is the intersection between psychology and a cultural studie on love. Dorothy tennov conducted research on love and came to the invention of the word limerance. she died before it become a term in the dsm– and its hard to say if it would ever be accepted anyway.

because ultimatley love is something silly for girls and doesn’t have any real world impact or whatever.

This is the object of desire

This object of desire is transformed and traverses through the piece through a naive dance into thrundering destruction. the piece closes with this melody as well.

After being transformed through a tritone substitution, we find ourselves unable to resolve. I initially wrote this piece when i myself was entranced with a crush, but when i finished it i couldnt tell if i felt bitterly or happy or what. I didn’t know, so the music doesn’t know either. It leaves an open ended question for the audience and it is as open-ended as love and relationships are.

the human condition is something i hope to explore and make sense of in my music. Music is a type of language and i believe it can communicate emotions in a way words can’t. I hope this piece resembles what limerance looks like to you.
